Semmie Kim & Caroline Huang
Caroline Huang (’10 Course 9) founded the MIT branch of Camp Kesem in her freshman year and has continued to coordinate the summer camp for children of cancer patients for the last three summers. As a freshman, Caroline did fundraising, gave presentations, designed curriculum and recruited volunteer student counselors in order to make the camp a reality. A two-time Student Leaders in Service, she has devoted over 800 hours of volunteer service to planning, organizing, training student volunteers, and ensuring the camp’s future at MIT. “Watching the Camp Kesem campers transform over the course of a week from kids who rarely cracked a smile to kids who grinned most of the time showed me that the project made a very tangible difference in their lives. The smiles on their parents’ faces at the end of camp were equally amazing," said Caroline of the impact Camp Kesem has made on her.
