The Doctor Doctor duo performs a simple high school science experiment on a much larger scale. Watch as a 55 gallon steel drum implodes.

Water inside the steel drum boils into steam. It takes only 0.2 Litres of water to fill the whole 55 Gallon drum with steam!

When the sealed barrel is placed in ice-water, the steam cools and condenses back into water. Because water takes up 1/1600th the volume of steam, a strong vacuum forms inside the air-tight drum. Without internal pressure

Comments:

I really like the minimalism of this clip. There is something Chaplinesque about it for some reason.

The explanatory comments were also very helpful to a non-physics type like myself.

great blog

have you ever wondered what this emplosion effect can have on weather, I have and I have published it

www.geocities.com/petercolenso/techie.html

I am looking for partners to share discovery & to get word out.

little known facts at 99% humidity air is 4% water vapour water vapour is 1670x bigger than water 1m cubed of rain used to take up 11.85m cubed of sky. this causes suction & lowers pressure, weather people have never considered it condensation revisited is a new science 1020mb take out the 4% water vapour into cloud equals 990mb a low pressure system, surely this must be worth consideration.
