Shared Human-Machine Control of an Unmanned Ground Vehicle
In this video, a user teleoperates a semi-autonomous utility vehicle through an obstacle course. The vehicle monitors the vehicle's environment, identifies a field of safe travel, and adjusts the driver's control commands as necessary to ensure the vehicle avoids collisions and losses of control. Note that the individual sitting on the vehicle is there for safety purposes only (to press an emergency stop button if needed).
This vehicle and associated communication infrastructure were the work of Quantum Signal, LLC. Steve Rohde and James Walker compiled this video.
See the research and publications pages on Sterling's website for more information about how this system works.
