Recently I took a a friend to an orchestra concert. Afterwards he asked me “What does a conductor do, aren’t the orchestra players just playing the music in front of them?” I did my best to answer but as a non-musician he couldn’t relate to my answer. Subsequently I discovered this video of one of my favorite orchestra conductors, doing an open rehearsal, and I had my friend watch it. Now he gets the idea of what the conductor is there for.

I enjoyed this, thank you MIT.
