Yes, they measure the actual position.

That is correct for the most part, there are some cheap machines that have encoders on the leadscrews (hand cranks) which would not give you absolute position of the bed but just an indication of the hand wheels basically

what’s he doing here?

Posted on 2010-09-09 04:35:54 -0400 by Anonymous 00:03:54

he’s checking the vise, not the quill

It’s not that easy. The tool has a taper on it, and once seated it is gripped quite firmly.

shocking the indicator? Is that nice?

Why pound it with the hammer If you loosen further on you can press it out without damaging the spindle-bearings…

So digital readouts do not measure movement of the feed screws, but the actual positions of the axes? Thus they automatically compensate for backlash?

You NEVER grease tapered collet/spindle surfaces. They rely on FRICTION to hold the collet in place.

glycerin filled dials can take a bit of shock just fine

He’s not hitting the indicator :)

Motion is relative :)

you must break the taper seal with hammer

Posted on 2010-09-09 04:35:54 -0400 by Anonymous 00:04:41

some digital readouts can measure feed rates and seeds but main purpose is as ameasuring scale

some machines have a pneumatic piston used to press it out, this one is a manual.

Ive found that I can use the C spanner on the R8 collet to lever it lose rather than hammering the draw bar.

Why can’t I “Toggle Full Screen”? I get the small video with sound but when I click on the Toggle Icon I get a black screen .
