Cool story bro!

I have a question?

Professor Bulovic says that OLEDs are more power efficient than current LCDs. However, I’ve read that such thing is only true when displaying certain colors. For example, if the picture is dark, like a scene at night, most molecules will be off, displaying true blacks. However, if the scene takes place in a white room, the molecules will be spending large amounts of power, making them much less power efficient than LCDs.

Can anybody tell me if this is true?

Well when he means efficient, most likely he’s referring to the amount of energy used and the amount gained. LCDs work by projecting a large amount of light using a back light through extremely thin photo flim transistors (think literally electric film that shifts according to the signal received). The amount of brightness is controlled by a shutter system similar to how window blinds operate, however like blinds, they don’t block all the light, so light is leaked through, and energy is wasted. OLED project there own light so they control there own brightness, but a LCD is typically ALWAYS using it’s max brightness even when the entire screen has dark imagery on it!

This was so interesting! I have been very interested in these displays! Here is more information I have found about on these displays at Google:
