I’ve been a DJ for a long time…done a lot of different things but have always loved to mix…but the only thing that really pays much now is doing weddings…
It’s true with the image aka the Nickname…it’s like you are a whole different being when you are dj’n! Now of course, I don’t use my DJ Name (DJ MeCanX) when I’m doing weddings…but I do use it when I do party type events.
People just tend to respond better than just a regular name…LOL But my pet peeve is when people call me DJ Joel…It just doesn’t flow very well and honestly sounds so lame…
I love it too when people can search for my DJ name and it comes up all over the place :0) I think it’s just a good sense of accomplishment…even if I’m not the biggest DJ on the planet.
But all in all…I love being a DJ!!!

Excellent video. I’m a dj who specializes in minimal, tech house and oldschool house. (I’m also a rails developer.) I’ve been dj’ing for the last 25 years; I started in Chicago when the whole house thing started taking off – grew up listening to the masters at WBMX on the radio. I then moved to L.A. where I started spinning at underground clubs (’88, ’89 and ’90). These were always held in empty warehouses in downtown L.A. (industrial areas). Lots of fun.
The artistry in dj’ing – in my opinion – is all about taste and selection. People pay you for your taste and your music selection. When two seemingly disparate tracks blend, magic happens. Dj’ing is truly a unique and modern art form. Thanks for the video!
